An antique rug from the 1930s carrying the classic Shiraz design of southern Persia: a navy hook-edged diamond medallion set on a madder-red field alive with small blossoms, stars and tribal filler motifs, with ivory botanical devices marking the four corners. The borders stack rosette chains and zigzag guard stripes in deep red, navy, brown, cream and gold. Hand-knotted from 100% natural wool with a low, even pile, it measures 7.6 x 9.10 ft (231 x 300 cm) and survives in excellent vintage condition with only minor signs of age. Nearly a century old and still vivid, it makes a warm, collected centerpiece for a living room or library.
